From August 7 to 15, 2025, the coastal town of Höllviken, Sweden, was the host of the international youth exchange EU & Youth Leadership, organized within the framework of the European Citizenship Academy (ECA) project. Hosted by the Malmö-based organization Centre for Capacity Building & Empowerment, the exchange brought together participants from North Macedonia, Sweden, Italy, Spain, and Greece to explore what it means to be young leaders and active European citizens.
Representing Macedonia, a group of motivated young people selected by Poraka Nova embraced the opportunity to learn, connect, and grow alongside their peers. From the very beginning, the atmosphere was filled with energy and curiosity, as the program combined both structured learning and cultural exploration. Workshops on European identity, youth participation, and leadership skills challenged participants to reflect on their role as changemakers in their communities and in Europe as a whole.A highlight of the exchange was the visit from Malmö’s Deputy Mayor, who inspired participants with an open discussion on the importance of youth engagement in decision-making. The group also stepped into the shoes of policymakers during a debate simulation, where they practiced public speaking, critical thinking, and negotiation. In international teams, the participants developed concrete project ideas for future youth exchanges and volunteering opportunities, showcasing how creativity and collaboration can turn visions into real opportunities.Beyond the workshops, the exchange offered many opportunities for cultural sharing and friendship.
Participants enjoyed intercultural evenings filled with food, music, and dancing, with the Macedonian group proudly preparing the traditional dish Tavche Gravche. They also spent time relaxing on Höllviken’s sandy beaches, experienced the vibrant Malmö Festival together, and built strong bonds that made the week unforgettable.
The exchange concluded with a meaningful Youthpass ceremony, where each participant received recognition for their learning journey. For the Macedonian team, this experience was more than just a project — it was a chance to strengthen their European identity, gain new skills, and create friendships across borders. They returned home inspired, confident, and motivated to take an active role in shaping a more inclusive and participatory Europe.
They expressed deep gratitude to Poraka Nova, the Centre for Capacity Building & Empowerment, and the entire ECA network for making this exchange possible. Höllviken will remain in their hearts as the place where they not only grew as individuals but also felt part of a larger European family.
