On 18–19 June 2026, participants from several EU countries and Beyond Wheels project partner countries Italy, Spain, and Macedonia came together online for the International Workshop — a two-day learning experience designed to support adults aged 30+ with locomotor disabilities in reflecting on their aspirations, identifying their strengths, and shaping meaningful life pathways.

Held under the theme “Build your life project. Beyond limits, toward your aspirations,” the workshop created a supportive international space where participants explored how personal growth, self-reflection, and practical planning can become tools for creating more fulfilling and self-directed futures.

Introducing the Beyond Wheels Method

The workshop opened with an introduction to the Beyond Wheels Method — an approach that encourages individuals to move from reflection into action. Rather than focusing on barriers or limitations, the methodology invites participants to recognise their capacities, values, experiences, and future ambitions as starting points for personal and professional development.

Participants had the opportunity to get to know one another and engage in interactive discussions, creating an atmosphere of openness and mutual inspiration from the very beginning.

A particularly meaningful moment of the first day was hearing the personal journey and vision behind the Beyond Wheels project by Kenenth Iversjo. Through this exchange, participants explored how experiences, challenges, and transitions can become sources of growth and empowerment when approached through a potential-centred perspective.

Exploring Identity Through Experience

The second day shifted from introduction to active engagement.

Through the experiential exercise “The Theatre Metaphor,” participants were invited to reflect on the different roles they play in life and how identity evolves across personal, social, and professional contexts. The exercise encouraged deeper thinking about life choices, personal goals, and the narratives we build about ourselves.

The workshop also included national breakout sessions, where participants could connect more closely within local groups while discovering the project’s learning platform and self-learning resources that will continue supporting their development journey.

Going Beyond the Wheels

One of the highlights of the workshop was the international panel discussion: “Going Beyond the Wheels: how to shift from limitation-centred approaches to potential-centred life planning.”

The conversation explored how individuals and communities can rethink traditional perspectives on life planning and instead create environments that support autonomy, participation, personal growth, and opportunity.

One of the most engaging moments of the International Workshop was the panel discussion “Going Beyond the Wheels: how to shift from limitation-centred approaches to potential-centred life planning”, moderated by Poraka Nova.

Bringing together perspectives from project partners and facilitators, the discussion opened an important conversation on how individuals can move beyond traditional narratives that often focus on obstacles and limitations and instead build pathways based on strengths, aspirations, and personal potential.

The panel explored questions such as: What does meaningful life planning look like? How can people identify opportunities that align with their personal goals? And how can communities, organisations, and support systems create environments that empower individuals to make decisions and shape their own futures?

Participants actively contributed their reflections and experiences, creating a dynamic exchange across countries and backgrounds. The conversation highlighted that every person’s journey is different, but that access to reflection tools, supportive learning spaces, and opportunities for self-development can play an important role in unlocking potential.

Participants shared reflections on what it means to build a life project based not on perceived limitations, but on aspirations, strengths, and possibilities.

The workshop concluded with a presentation of the next steps of the Beyond Wheels pathway, which will continue from September 2026 until February 2027.

More than an online event, this workshop marked the beginning of a longer learning and reflection process — one that empowers participants to imagine new possibilities, define personal goals, and take practical steps toward building the life they aspire to live.

Beyond Wheels continues to remind us that meaningful change starts with recognising potential, embracing personal agency, and moving beyond the boundaries that often define us. The project Beyond Wheels is coordinated by CarpoACE Europe (Spain) CarpoACE Europe and in partnership with SOLIS SRLS (Italy) SOLIS Srls and Poraka Nova (Macedonia).
